Commemorating 90 Years of Giant Food Means Celebrating Community Care

On Feb. 6, 2026, Giant Food—the grocery retailer with 166 locations across the Mid-Atlantic—celebrated their 90th birthday with cake, balloons, and giving back.

Befitting their long history of community connection, Giant is marking their ninth decade by donating $990,000 to food banks in the communities they serve, including the Maryland Food Bank.

“Giant has been at our side for decades, and since 1993 they’ve donated more than $8 million to support our work. They listen, we learn from one another, and they always show up as an incredible partner.” Meg Kimmel, President & CEO, Maryland Food Bank.

During a birthday party and volunteer shift in the MFB Volunteer Center, Giant Food presented the food bank with a gift of $300,000 to combat childhood hunger through MFB’s School Pantry Program. The Maryland Food Bank supports more than 170 food pantries in schools across Central Maryland, providing nutritious food to children and families in a place that’s familiar, warm and welcoming.  end story icon
